Viartril-S 1500 mg is used for treatment of all forms of degenerative osteoarticular disease. Primary and secondary osteoarthrosis eg, cervical arthrosis, coxofemoral arthrosis, gonarthrosis, dorsal arthrosis, lumbosacral arthrosis, scapulohumeral arthrosis, periarthritis, osteoarticular dystrophies, chronic and subacute arthritis.
Viartril-S 1500 mg contains active substance of Crystalline Glucosamine Sulphate 1884 mg, equivalent to 1500 mg of Glucosamine Sulphate.
Glucosamine can actually help prevent the destruction of cartilage that is the hallmark of osteoarthritis, unlike pain relievers such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Successful treatment of osteoarthritis should effectively control pain and slow down or reverse the progression of the degeneration. Research proves glucosamine sulfate is capable of satisfying both of these criteria. It generally takes around four weeks before improvements in symptoms are noticed when taking glucosamine, and longer for radiographic changes.
Indications: treatment of all forms of degenerative osteoarticular disease. Primary and secondary osteoarthrosis eg, cervical arthrosis, coxofemoral arthrosis, gonarthrosis, dorsal arthrosis, lumbosacral arthrosis, scapulohumeral arthrosis, periarthritis, osteoarticular dystrophies, chronic and subacute arthritis.
Mechanism of action: Glucosamine sulfate possesses arthrotrophic metabolic activity by stimulating the anabolic metabolism of osteocartilaginous tissues, through stimulation of the biosynthesis of the mucopolysaccharides (which are the essential components of the cartilage ground-substances) and of the bone mesenchymal tissues.
Lubricant activity through improvement of synovial fluid viscosity by increasing synovial fluid production. Glucosamine sulfate is particularly effective in all forms of degenerative osteoarticular disease eg, arthrosis and osteoarthritis both subacute and chronic with disappearance or reduction of articular pains, improvement of articular function and inhibition or regression of the degenerative process.
Side effects: Glucosamine sulfate is LIKELY SAFE when used appropriately by mouth in adults. Glucosamine sulfate can cause some mild side effects including nausea, heartburn, diarrhea, and constipation. Uncommon side effects are drowsiness, skin reactions, and headache. These are rare.
Special precautions: Pregnancy or breast-feeding – There is not enough reliable scientific information available to know if glucosamine sulfate is safe to take during pregnancy or while breast-feeding. Until more is known, do not take glucosamine sulfate while pregnant or breast-feeding.
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to glucosamine. Patients with conductive disorders of the heart, acute cardiac decompensation.
